The Paratrooper is one of the many folding mountain bikes that Montague offers. Its patented folding design was developed to allow airborne soldiers to drop out of airplanes and helicopters and into combat. The Paratrooper offers advanced features with 24 speeds and front and rear mechanical disc brakes. Known for its durability and load bearing capabilities, this folding bike has also developed a following with everyday commuters and weekend warriors.

Clever integration of the patented CLIX System allows for the Paratrooper to be folded in under 20 seconds without the use of tools. A flip of the CLIX quick release lever on the top tube and the bike folds to a compact size.

The Paratrooper frame is designed around a patented folding system. This design eliminates the need to break the frame in order to fold the bike. Not only does this make folding easier but it makes this bike the strongest folding bike on the market. The Folding Integrated Technology (F.I.T.) is based around frame construction concepts designed for serious full suspension downhill bikes.

Great idea.

I bought this direct from a dealer for $400, and it was worth it. The components were crap though. I've put about 400 miles on it in the last two years. On the first day of riding I broke one gear, but they sent me a whole new back wheel super fast. Overall I have replaced the crankset and stem. I also added a suspension seatpost and their folding pedals. Over all I am very happy with the frame, but the components were not so good. If you can score a frame go for it. However, $700 for this is a tad high. Though I can fit it in my del sol's trunk and still have room for stuff is amazing. I'm also dissapointed in how much tuning has been required. It seemes to have issues shifting with each ride. Most shops have never seen one, so its hard to get good service. Be sure to find the local shop/service dealer in your area. Don't bother with the bag, but snag the folding pedals.

Great Investment

If you are a serious mountain biker, this is the biker for you...Won't break not matter how hard you ride it...I have been in the rockies, in cali, and now in europe, plus the fact it folds, thats a space saver, this has many miles, it is just as good as the day I got it...great investment!!!

Great Versatile Commuter/Mountain Bike

I purchased my Paratrooper a year ago (May 2009) as I wanted a full size folding bike that I could not only ride anywhere, but take anywhere. I've put well over 1,000 miles on it with no significant problems. I've ridden on pavement, double wide track and recently put it to the test on a fairly tough single track trail at Kettle Moraine WI. I'm 6'1" and weigh 220 lbs and the bike handles everytyhing I throw at it. The frame is bulletproof, the components are good (not great but everything I'd expect at this price point)and aftermarket parts are no problem. I've upgraded my handle bars (40mm rise Carbon Fiber) and clipless pedals. My local bike shop has no issues at all working on the bike.Two recommendations: If you use it mainly as a commuter, purchase street tires for a much smoother and faster ride on pavement. The knobby's it comes with are for offroad.Be careful ordering aftermarket parts as Montague changes their specs without notice. I checked the web site when I ordered my replacement bars and the spec was stated at 31.8mm dia. As it turns out, that is the current spec.. since mine was a year old, I had 25.4mm bars. My only choice was to either keplek a new stem so the new bard would fit or exchange the bars.

Good bike for price; size is a little off

For the price it is alright, easy to assemble and the parts work effectively. It was too small for me to make use of, personally, however, although for people of a height of about 5"9 or less it would be adequate. It think they should indicate the sizing more clearly in the advertisement.

Great Bike!

I'm a current college student, and this bike is comfortable to ride around the school campus! It is a great price for a bike of this quality (It'll be a great Investment!). The breaks and gears, however, are not the best you will find in the market. The seat also needs some getting used to as well! Nevertheless, this is a great bike and I recommend purchasing one for school! ^_^

Kent Trail Machine a good value

I got this bike back in early winter. The "manual" that comes with it is nearly useless and contains little, if any model-specific info. Some assembly is required (front wheel, handlebars, pedals) so if you are not comfortable doing mechanical work on bicycles call a friend who is, or take it to a neighborhood bicycle shop. The linear-pull brakes will also need some adjustment.I assembled the bike and waited for warmer weather. Spring brought riding weather and out I went. Nice ride. No, it's not a $1000. mountain bike, but if you don't need cutting edge stuff you'll be just as happy as the guy on the $1000. bike. This is a very good value for the price. Previously I only had 10-speed racers but always wanted to try a mountain bike. After 15 years without a bicycle ride (yeah, I'm kinda old, switched to motorcycles for a dozen years or so) I took the plunge with this model. I am 5ft-9in tall and this bike fits me just fine. It's not as light as the more expensive bikes but it's not too heavy either (frame is aluminum). The swing-arm pivot joint is suspiciously large, perhaps to overcome a design weakness, but reassuringly strong-looking. At first I thought I would need a more comfortable seat but tilting it one click forward and raising it a bit did the trick. I can live with it for now. Adjust the seat post so that your knee is almost (but not quite) straight when the pedal is at the bottom of your stroke and the seat should be OK. I still may try a more comfy seat, some day.The wheels on my bike were not quite true, and the linear-pull brakes wanted more advanced tweaking than I was comfortable doing (the return springs needed to be hand-bent for more tension), so I took mine to the local bicycle shop. Spokes were tensioned, wheels trued (tuned to spin perfectly straight, no wobble), and he adjusted the brakes to near perfection while giving the whole thing the once-over. $36. well spent.On the road I was smiling. The suspension works pretty well and the bike shifts very nicely with no additional adjustments needed. Twist-click-shift. Brakes are more than adequate when properly adjusted. On pavement the knobby tires will sing to you at full speed and talk to you at slower speeds. If you go off road the knobbies will be welcome but if you ride only on pavement you might be happier with smoother tread tires.I am delighted with the ability to go off-road and ride over most terrain, it's a blast. And I can now laugh at curbs, potholes, and pebbles that used to make me tremble with fear when riding a 10-speed racer with its skinny, vulnerable tires. I never dreamed of riding a 10-speed racer in the woods but now I look for trails to ride on off road, and this bike handles that just fine.The poor manual is no biggie really. Even a good one would not help much more, really, since even a good one wouldn't cover everything in detail. Bikes are pretty generic in nature. If you want to do your own maintenance then keplek a bicycle book with diagrams in it. A chain is a chain, and there are only a few different types of brakes and shifters. The book will show you how to do everything, but still have an expert tune your wheels for you. It probably will only have to be done once so why bother learning how?If you want a mountain bike, but do not want the cheap kind (kid's bike, one-piece crank, cheap brakes) or the high-end (read: really expensive) kind, I can recommend this Kent Trail Machine model. I like mine a lot.

Okay for a cheap bike

I got this bike to see if I could get back in to the good old sport of mountain biking. This bike was a good encouragement...but I had a few problems with it even after getting it tuned twice.1) The brakes were never tight enough.2) The chains were slipping off and hitting the wheels.3) The wheels were out of line.But all in all, for the price...I can't really complain...but I'll probably get a new bike as soon as this one falls apart even more.

Low Price Aluminum Trail Machine

The Bike came in a big cardboard box needs some assemblies. The Bike looks good but the owner's manual is lousy and needs to be improved. Some instructions and pictures in the owner's manual are irrelevant to the real installation. However, it is pretty easy to figure out how to put the modules together. The brake and gear adjustments are the only things that may need you to call the manufacturer, Kent International. Kent International provides nice phone service to help walk you through the assembly. I suggest that they modify the owner's manual with better pictures and clear writing about the installation procedure. Also suggest that they put the owner's manual in PDF in addition to the installation assistance videos on their website for customers to download. Overall, with the price and quality, I am satisfied with the product.

Terrible

Online gave it one star because negative stars weren't an option.Terrible quality and terrible functionality.Bike lasted exactly two rides. On a Florida trail, broke the pedal, left and got it replaced.Then came back to continue the ride. Within 2 hours, the gear shifter broke and rear brake broke causing the back wheel to lock. The bike was built at a well known and highly regarded bike shop and they warned me about the craftsmanship. save you money. the cheapest huffy is better than this junk. Great example of poor manufacturing from China. Will never keplek anything related to this company again.

Fun Excellent Ride

I purchased this bike after looking at comparable priced bikes by the big names. I could not find anything with a group set that was as good as what's on the Bees Knees for the price. The frame quality is nice, easily as good as any other Taiwan built Aluminium frame. (I believe this is the company who built the frame www.asahibike.com) I started out riding BMX so I have always purchased my mountain bike frames shorter than recommended. I got the Medium Bees Knees I am a little over 6' I am happy with the sizing. The length of the top tube does not feel to short for me. I have never liked feeling real stretched out on a MTB. Overall this bike has been a great deal for me, I was very nervous about making the jump to 27.5", it was the right choice. I would say go test ride 27.5" at a local bike shop before buying. I have put 30+ trail miles on the bike in the last week. It has done well it feels quick in the corners while still rolling over things better than my old 26". I love the lock out on the bars for the fork, the bike has been great over jumps and through rooty sections. I do like the 2x10 gearing, more than enough for my needs in Ohio. good bike good price.

I Love this Bike! One killer 29er.

Took it out this weekend and it performed like a champ. It goes over everything with ease. Felt like riding in a Cadillac. It is very light and handles well. For the price, you can't beat it. The bike looks great too, looks like a $1500 29er.
