Purchased this bike to treat myself to an "upgrade" above my 2000 Mongoose MGX that was purchase for $99. The old bike was a beastly tank that never fell apart amongst the years of abuse. It had a steel frame and and would drain your energy peddling up the first hill of any ride. It only had 1" of front fork travel and looked pretty goofy with all the stickers. Now was the time to get an intermediate bike. Or so I thought. It was kind of a step down for the price. The Status does have a lighter frame, more fork travel and better aesthetics, but the quality of components is awful. I've had problems with the shifter, brake lever, derailleur, rear wheel/hub, and brake cable within 2 months of owning it.Pros:Frame - strong. Heavy for aluminum, but still lighter than steel.Rear suspension - Designed to prevent bob and sagging. On the firmer side of the spectrum. No squeaks, rattles or noiseFront suspension - 4 inches of travel. However, very soft and linear. You will bottom it out if you plan on jumping.Saddle - The most comfortable stock seat on a department store I have ever sat on. It should last if you keep it out of the sun and rain.Cons:Front brake - A bit lacking in performance. It will stop your bike, but you have to apply full force to come to a casual stop.Brake levers - One is solid, the other is loose with a bunch of play on the hinge.Derailleurs - Rubbish. Have fallen off the bike do to violent misshifts.Wheels - While the look cool and have thicker hubs, the rear rim had a failure when riding.Manual - A generic manual created by Pacific to cover all bikes from bmx, cruisers and mountain bikes. Very vague.Shifter - Split after riding

I liked a lot because it has very nice suspension, front and rear, and you cannot get that for less that $500 in other brands. The only problem I found is that the derailleur doesn't shift properly some of the gears in the middle of the rear cassette.

I returned to riding after many years and wanted something that would make the bumps easy on the rear. This met that and made it so I could go anywhere I wanted. I really enjoy the ride. Had a couple of problems with damage in shipment but after a quick call to the manufacturer, they shipped replacement parts without any questions and I was up and riding the next day.
