In my youth I used to ride a lot. Now I'm just trying to exercise to lose weight. (I'm pushing 200lbs at 5'9") Is this a $1000 bike? No. Do I wish it was? Yes. But it is the best bike I could afford that will do well off road.I'm not climbing mountains, just a few hills. The gearing appears to me to be fine for steep terrain. I've put about 100 miles on this bike without issue. None of those miles were on a road and it was rough terrain on a narrow track over grassland (fairly bumpy). The suspension seems to help me a good deal. I couldn't ride on this trail with previous bikes due to the bumps and bouncing to the point of non enjoyment. It steers well.For the price range this bike is in, I see no honest faults. Components could be more costly and well made, but if you wanted those things you wouldn't be looking at this bike. The chain switches gears when I want it to without a blip with amazing accuracy. The saddle seems decent enough, but you probably will want to upgrade at some point. Everything behaves like I expect it would at this price point. Rims came fairly straight, brakes work, gears shift, pedals turn, etc.I found the bike to fit me adequately. Not exactly a perfect fit, but close enough to want to ride it every day, and that's the most important point. I'm actually having a blast on it and now riding up to 15 miles off road a day.I did keplek this from a box store already assembled. But I would imagine that anyone buying this bike should expect to have to do some adjusting to the components and "dial it in" with the brake pads, and derailleurs, etc., and make sure everything is tightened up!I feel that this is a fairly decent $200 bike and it should last me a good long while and take a decent amount of abuse.*EDIT 8/11/13As I have now learned, you might also want to make sure all your bearings are lubricated, as with any bike not bought from a bike store. I developed a bad squeak at about 300 miles and found that the crank bearings had very little lubrication and one of the bearings was dead. When I pulled it apart I had a bunch of blackish powder fall out accompanied by a mangled bearing...no grease. I also looked at my axle bearings and found a similar situation. They were greased, but not well. Luckily there's plenty of videos online to explain how to disassemble and perform this kind of maintenance. I don't fault the bike for this. I think I spent $20 on a crank puller and bearings and was on my way again. My longest ride so far was 50 miles on muddy canyon roads and this bike did wonderful.

I had the same issue as another reviewer that I had to adjust the handlebars...not poor design, but definitely poorly put together by the store. I also had to turn the front wheel around and attach the kick stand so it wouldn't fall off. I also checked all the other nuts and bolts because I absolutely hate it when stuff falls off of my bike on the first ride.The suspension on the front is great. The brakes work wonderfully well (after I adjusted them). The gear shifters do alright, but I will have to adjust them as well.The rear suspension is stiff...like not having a rear suspension at all. I should be able to put my body-weight on it and notice a difference. (I'm a pretty big guy). I can't. I think the rear suspension is just a show-piece.Overall, not a bad purchase for my $160.00 plus 40% off because it was an end of the season purchase. I looked on here first, because I absolutely am a die-hard kumisjojon fan, but I couldn't pay double the price...Had to drop the review to 3 stars after the steering loosened up again. This problem could potentially cause some major issues. I plan on tightening it again an seeing if it won't stay tightened...

This is a decent bike, the best for the money if you want to spend around or under $200. Spending $400-$500 will get you a MUCH better bike, but you wouldn't be looking at this if you were willing to spend over $400, would you? Also be forewarned about buying this from kumisjojon: You can probably find it cheaper somewhere other than kumisjojon.This is a decent bike, but if you're going mail-order, you should probably have some basic experience working with bicycle assembly. I had to tighten down my handlebars midway through a ride, tighten up the seat-post, adjust the shifters and adjust the brakes. I've been monkeying with bikes for over 20 years (not professionally, mind you, just messing with my own stuff), but someone with rudimentary bicycle repair / adjustment knowledge should be fine.Full suspension was an eye-opener for me, it's a very different ride than a hard-tail, especially on rough trails. Not bad, just different. I got it for road-to-the-store as well as offroad semi-groomed trails. This is a good go-between to hit both wishes.Complaints:the wheels aren't quick release.cable pulls are exposed and run underneath the top tube, making portage and racks stowage potentially problematicseat post doesn't extend enough for a full pedal strokenowhere (due to lack of mounting holes as well as bike geometry) to put bike bottleslots of cables in front of the stem. Couldn't seat a small bike bag comfortably in front of them.Overall assessment:Good bike. Shifts well, even when grinding gears in an uphill climb.Saddle seemed comfortable enough for a quick five miler.
