5Amazing price for a really solid bike - detailed review below
By Multitasker
First a little background. I've been on 2 wheels (sometimes just one) all my life, I started riding long distances when I was younger, I rode BMX for about 10 years and recently getting back into mountain biking. Since I'm one of those that reads reviews before buying, I'll try to be as detailed as possible to help out whomever is reading thisUnboxing:Obviously, this bike needs assembled. If you've never put a boxed bike together, don't freak out, it's really not that bad. The bike will come with the rear wheel, cranks, stem and handlebars already attached to the bike. You will need to adjust handlebar position, put on the front wheel and pedals (remember, left side pedal goes on opposite thread) the rear brake will need adjusted, the front brake is partially assembled, but you will need to route the cable. On mine, the front and rear derailleurs needed adjusted. If you haven't done this before, you might want to take it to your local bike shop, it can be a little tricky your first time. The seat comes pre-attached to the seat tube, but you'll need to install it into the bike frame. Diamondback gives you the following tools as well, an Allen wrenches and a open end wrench.First impressions out of the box? Beautiful bike! I got the black and white version and have received quite a few compliments when on the local bike trail as well. Now onto the bike itself. First, this is light for a beefed up mountain bike, the front end is pretty light as well. I'm guessing about 20 pounds total at the most. This isn't "road bike light" but you're looking at a mountain bike built for off-road. Honestly, of all the mountain bikes I've owned, this is the lightest. Ok, now to get detailed..Frame:The photo doesn't show it too well, but it's a very unique frame shape. The front near the headtube is a rounded square, which fades to an oval when it comes to the seat tube. The downtube of the bike is very beefy. The chainstays, the part that goes from the seat tube to the rear-dropouts are a rounded rectangle. I'm guessing this is for added strength, but it looks good. There's also a lifetime warranty on this frame. As far as size, I'm 5'8 or 9" and the medium fits me well. The frame also has mounts for a disc brake in the rear if you decide to upgrade later.Handlebars:These are about a standard mountain bike handlebar, a little bit of rise as expected. The handgrips are very aggressive and grippy. Out of the box, the bars are a little wide. I'll probably cut about a 1/2 inch off each end, but it isn't so wide that it's a problem. You may like the width, I like a little narrower.Front Fork:This is a Suntour XCT, admittedly, it's a lower end fork, but you can adjust the preload. It's a 100mm fork, which gives you about 4 inches of travel. If you're new to this, the goal is to keep the front wheel on the ground. Traction = control.Pedals and cranks:Yes, it comes with plastic pedals. While this may be a drawback to some, I'm picky about my pedals so I knew going into this I was going to replace them. Cranks are solid, just remember to tighten the arm after about a month or so.Wheels and Tires:Ok these rims are light, waaay lighter than expected. Black rims, black hubs, black spokes. Love the way it looks. Tires are big and aggressive. These are 26x2.10 Kenda Klaw 2. There is a bit more rolling resistance with these tires, but they grip really well in the dirt. Went riding yesterday with a buddy and had a downhill paved road to get to the trail. at 25 mph, these tires are fairly loud on the road. If you're coming from a cruiser or road bike, be prepared to feel some rolling resistance you're not used to. Both front and rear wheels are quick release axles as well.Seat:Hard to review as all our..rear-ends are different, but it's a little uncomfortable in a long ride. It's really light as well. A little tip, when you get it, angle the seat nose down a bit, it'll help. Again, I almost always replace the seat on the bike, diamondback can't build a seat for every...rear..so I can't fault them on this. The seat tube on the frame also has a quick release clamp, so setting this up is a breeze.Shifting:Love the shifting on this bike. These are not twist shifts, which I despise, but rather lever activated shifters. They click into place cleanly once properly adjusted and feel very solid. Finally, a few tips regarding this bike in general:1. Make sure you install the left pedal correctly, it is reverse thread. Tighten it down good.2. Put some grease in the seat tube before installing the seat post.3. If this is your first bike with a front shock, read up on Preload and SAG and adjust for your body weight4. Check all screws and bolts before ridingHope this review helped you out, I'll upload some photos soon. Any questions feel free to ask, I'm on kumisjojon all the time buying stuff. :)

5Diamondback Did Not Let Me Down
By Cajun JJ
After a hard spill and some broken bones, I gave up biking for several years, but recently decided to start up again. I did my homework and finally decided on the Diamondback Response to help me jump back in. I bought the bike for $400 and it was an excellent price for the quality received. This bike is heavy duty, rugged, and durable. If Rambo rode a bike, it would be this one.Assembly was much easier than I expected....and kumisjojon shipped very quickly! Not only is the bike aesthetically pleasing, but most of the parts are adjustable to configure the bike to your like and style of riding. All the parts are high quality....I honestly couldn't find one weak link in the whole design. I tried to put it through hell on my first outing and it didn't even flinch. Diamondback's reputation is secure....they did not let me down!Ultimately, this bike safe and reliable. I would recommend it to any level rider.

4Great Bike but...
By Lay-Zrider
The Good: The bike is great for the money. Rides smooth, well balanced for jumps and carving turns, shifts are instant and authoritative, brakes are great for non-disc, saddle is as expected for a mountain bike, front shocks smoother than super cheapies, all around very happy... after road bikes for the last 10 years, I feel like a kid again jumping off curbs, through dirt trails, sand, etc. I cannot comment on extreme riding and durability of the bike as I'm a suburban rider thus far so for you crazies doing mach 10 down the side of a mountain looking at this bike as an option either; A. your not very smart for putting your life in the hands of a 300 buck bike and you deserve whats coming and/or B. maybe you need to get some help from a bike store professional before bombing face first down Mount Killamenowa. The Bad (well sort of): 1. The plastic pedals are hilarious...why? and the thumb triggers for shifting cannot be adjusted :( 2. The bike is NOT READY TO RIDE OUT OF THE BOX...it needs a Full tune before you ride it. Beyond the assembly of it which isn't all that bad if your mechanically inclined, my bike needed: brakes tuned and aligned, front and rear derailleurs fully adjusted (they were way off!), both wheels needed spoke tightening/straightening, all cables adjusted, tire pressure (of course), and as with any bike, proper alignment/geometry set for your frame (saddle height, fore and aft, handlebar width and controls adjusted etc.)All of this can be done if: you have the patience to read through the manual, have done it before, youtube or otherwise plan on taking it to a bike shop for a full tune and set up once taken out of the box. Finally I am 6'3" with a 34 inch inseam and a long back, the XL frame is a hair "tight" on the jewels I would have been better off with a large... but a really great bike at a great price!Cheers
