Whether you are new to the trails or a seasoned singletrack rider, the Response series offers uncompromised performance without compromising your bank account. Compared to a full-suspension mountain bike, a hardtail is better suited to several situations, such as riding to class, buffed-out trails, or just cruising around the neighborhood. Combining the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility, the Diamondback Response is a value oriented build ready for any new rider or common-sense lover. At the heart of each Response is our rugged Diamondback 6061-T6 aluminum frame with formed top and down tubes providing strength and style with clean lines. A machined headtube adds strength and style while forged drop outs with a replaceable hanger add the finer touches. The components provide more proof of our commitment to providing you with the most appropriate package and value for your money. A SR Suntour XCT 100mm travel fork soaks up bumps large and small, without being overkill. Also on deck is a set of Tektro Alloy Linear Pull brakes which are a light and simple solution to stopping your rig on a dime. 32h Weinmann MX260R Double wall rims laced to 32h MX260H alloy hubs combine to make a durable and long lasting wheelset. The tough alloy arm crank set (24/32/42t) is a good match for the Shimano TX50 front derailleur, the Shimano Altus 7spd rear derailleur and Shimano HG20 7spd Cassette (12-28t). This combo provides more than enough gearing options to get you where you want to go when you want to go there. Diamondbacks signature alloy SL318s stem and riser bar create the perfect cockpit while the SL309p Alloy Micro Adjust 30.9mm post and DB low profile All Mountain saddle ensure that you can pedal all day long. The Response is red and is available in XS (14"), SM (16"), MD (18"), LG (20"), XL (22"). If a solid, reliable, and affordable all-purpose mountain bike is what you’re after; a Response is the obvious choice.

5Easily a Six Star Item: This Bike Is An Exceptional Value For The Money
By Michael Hallisey
"Bottom Line Up Front" (BLUF): For about $100 more than you would pay for a beater bike at a local department store you can get a bike that is 4-5x better than the beater. Just to show that I put my money where my mouth (well, pen) is, I bought two.I am a bicycle enthusiast. I own or have owned more than 25 bicycles of various types (road, mountain, touring, hybrid). So while I'm no pro, I do know what I'm buying and what is a good value for the dollar. So here are a few observations....The kumisjojon price ($322 at the time of this review) is - well - astounding. But even at the MSRP ($470) the buyer gets a well-built and not too heavy aluminum frame mated to a set of components that makes it hard to believe Diamondback is making any money.Nice handlebar, nice seat, nice front fork. A mixed group of components (Shimano, Suntour, Kenda) make up a nice gruppo that functions smoothly at all points (brakes, derailleurs, suspension fork, crankset, wheels/tires, etc.). The wheels have quick releases. The frame welds are neatly done and the finish is something I would have expected from a much higher priced bicycle. The color scheme is sharp and stunning: the red/silver combo is not done any justice by the product photos. Here's another detail that most probably could care less about, but shows the care Diamondback took in speccing out the bike: the Kenda tires are direction-dependent (note arrow on sidewall) and the front tire's tread pattern is different from the rear (in other words, the front tire is specifically a front tire; the same for the back tire). In short, for this price point, I find it hard to believe anyone has any complaints. Perhaps an imperfect comparison, but this bike is as good (maybe better) than a high end Scott MTB I bought back in 1999. In other words, $470 (MSRP) in 2013 buys you what over $1,500 bought in 1999.Buyers need to remember that this is not a 29-er (29-inch wheels), but the more traditional 26-inch setup. It is also a hardtail, so no rear suspension. Nevertheless, the frame's relaxed geometry makes for a very comfortable ride. Of course, the rider can inflate tires to taste (recommended pressure range: 50-65 lbs; Schraeder, not Presta valves). Not sure how hard you can ride this, but I bet the bike frame and components will hold up under everything but the most trying of conditions. In other words, not a bad bike to work out on.While the "pluses" are almost innumerable, there were a few "negatives." The plastic pedals are really cheap (in fact, one pedal from one of the bikes had defective bearings). In defense, I imagine Diamondback believes most buyers will keplek MTB-style pedals (in other words, these pedals are the same cheap pedals bike shops use to get a person on the bike, but not the pedals they would recommend buyers ultimately use). The bikes come well-packed, but a bit more padding would have been appreciated: each bike came with a ding that will require a bit of touch-up paint (have been trying to contact Diamondback support, but the number has been busy or won't connect). For those looking to use this bike as a starter/first bike, you need to know there's no kickstand, racks, or fenders.kumisjojon shipped the bikes extraordinarily quickly and UPS took good care of the item enroute: neither box showed any amount of damage.Assembly (if you have any knowledge of bike assembly) is a breeze; it took me about 20 minutes to unpack, assemble, and dispose of the shipping box (matching bike to rider takes a bit more time). Handlebar clamp requires 4mm allen wrench; brakes will need to be adjusted (5mm allen wrench); as will seat level (6mm wrench: beware, on both bikes this bolt was massively over-torqued). Seat post length is good, but an additional inch or so would have been better. Frame size is standard (an inseam of 32 inches is probably the shortest for a medium frame). Derailleurs (front and rear) worked well out of the box (note: if you have no experience adjusting derailleurs it can be a bit of a daunting and/or depressing experience. But Shimano has good online support and if that is still not enough, your LBS - local bike shop - would be glad to adjust everything for a reasonable price). Not sure why anyone would want to do so, but the bike is certainly and easily upgradable. The frame will accept a rear disc brake, but front fork won't (note: if you are thinking about disc brakes, you'd have to change the rear wheel as well, so it would be worth just buying a higher grade bike with disc brakes already installed and avoid the hassle). Finally, regarding comments made by other reviewers about the country of origin/manufacture, buyers should know that most bike frames these days are built in China (but not the People's Republic of China, rather Taiwan China). I am hard-pressed to think of any bike company (other than some top end ones or custom shops) that don't get their frames from Taiwan. Bottom line, it's been that way for much more than a decade and it's not a bad thing.Summary: This is the first time I have ever considered rating an item at more than 5 stars. When one considers item vs. price point, this bike has massive "pros" and virtually no "cons." This is an exceptional value (especially at the current kumisjojon price). And Diamondback even throws in a cute dog chain style key chain!

5Good bike
By Wes
Shifts good, quiet, looks good, good quality, and just to let you know it comes with out a kick stand which was good for me because most kick stands rattle over rough surfaces.I use this bike for riding rough back country roads, and it does well.
